Review Reports
The REF 2021 Output Review Reports are an in-depth review of REF 2021's Outputs with specific focus on two key areas - Journal Articles and Authored Book Submissions - for ALL submissions and for the top 10 Institutions.
Journal Articles make up the majority of outputs in REF 2021, with over 150,000 journal article submissions, accounting for over 80% of outputs. There were almost 12,000 Authored Book submissions, accounting for just over 6% of output submissions.

An In-depth Analysis of Outputs
The review reports provide valuable insight in to REF outputs for Senior Management at an institutional level; for Research Directors at a unit level; and an enhanced understanding of outputs submitted at an individual level (for both experienced and new to REF staff members).
Available by unit of assessment, each report provides an overview of the quality ratings; overview of outputs; output types; analysis of journal articles; analysis of authored books (where relevant); as well as an analysis of the top 10 output scoring Institutions.
